Who Are You

When I meet someone for the first time I rummage in my head to find which part of me will I introduce. The witty one; who’ll make you laugh but may come across as stupid, the intelligent one but may come across as knows it all. Usually I’ll be the listener, absorbing the surrounding party, this sometimes comes across like I am either a little boring or very quite; yes I can be boring, that depends on who I’m with as I tend to bounce off people…so touché, I’m just projecting my company.

My point is it doesn’t matter who I reveal as long as I know who I am, it doesn’t matter what someone thinks about me as long as I am sure of who I am and I believe in it.

So who am I?

I am a concoction of many people I have met over the years and liked.

I decided who I wanted to be and who I didn’t want to be years ago, to elaborate, I wanted to be at peace within myself and by doing that I had to stop beating myself up about every bad thing I did. I’ve learned to accept I can’t tick all boxes and that’s cool with me.

Thats not to say I don’t have a wobbly moment where I question my thoughts and emotions or express a behaviour which is very unlike me or a distasteful behaviour which occasionally Comes out.

Knowing who you are is about believing in what your about, being honest with yourself and working around it. for example, I’m a counsellor, I have worked with substance misuse, domestic abuse and children at risk. I am compassionate and will do my best to help anyone. however, I admit that I have used some foul language at high pitched decibels when on the road. So who I am doesn’t stop me being human, what it does do is help me to reflect on my behaviour unbiasedly, admit my faults and try to manage that behaviour from repeating it again.

By accepting who your are with all your imperfections, without measuring up against what society expects of us, without weighing up against an image on Instagram or facebook post, you get to see the real you. You get to hear what you really want from yourself. Discovering your own person will help you to design your life and to love your every day existence.

Find who you are

  • What are you strengths and qualities
  • What are your weakness and flaws
  • When did you last have a good day and what made it good

I am a mixture too, similar to what you share here and like you, it reflects who I am with. Until I was comfortable with this and my self-esteem increased, I would remain too quiet.

thank you Liz, its refreshing to hear your thoughts and very inspiring for me and I’m sure many to read other peoples thoughts. I do wish more people would share their thoughts as you did because we all do inspire one another and find affirmation in what we hear/read xxxx

Maybe ’cause I’m like… older… that I’m comfortable in my skin. I know who I am. I may be to bold or strong for some and just right for others. I know I may not always be everyone’s cup of tea, but that isn’t really my concern. I don’t measure my worth or value against things I see on the internet or real life. I am who I am and I’m good with that. Good post, thanks.
